The Australian government is running a competition where 6 lucky people could win the chance to work in Australia as a Park Ranger, Wildlife Caretaker or, rather intriguingly, a Chief Funster.
It’s a genius marketing campaign. Breathtaking scenery. Fascinating wildlife. The opportunity for the adventure of a lifetime… Who wouldn’t want that? Well, me, as it happens, and here are my top four reasons why:
1. Colleagues, friends, countrymen
While Australia may be able to offer me hours of sunshine, in my job I work with interesting people from all over the world. Koalas aren’t known to be the greatest conversationalists.
2. The Office vs. the Outback
The previous winner, Ben Southall, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, he did admit that a poisonous jellyfish stung him. That’s not to mention all those terrifying Australian spiders. I prefer my crawlers to be restricted to Google.
3. Analytics mon amour
The previous ‘Best Job in the World’ campaign was a huge call to action for British graduates in 2009, attracting over 80,000 applicants. But even tasting Australia’s finest wines couldn’t cure me of my Google analytics addiction.
How many people could live without state of the art technology as part of their job? I certainly couldn’t. And I do not dream of waking up Kangaroos. In fact, in marketing anything that bounces is bad news.
Yes, marketing will always be page 1 for me. But what do you think? What’s your dream job?
