Red EggIn the Orthodox Calendar this year Easter Sunday is being celebrated today.

Festivities will be taking place across Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Republic of Macedonia, Romania, and Ukraine.

On Holy Thursday, in Greece, many people dye eggs red in order to symbolise the blood of Christ. They then tap the eggs on peoples’ heads and the person with the last unbroken egg is seen as lucky.

Greek families today will be eating Easter treats such as: lamb, ‘dolmadakia’ (stuffed vine leaves), and ‘loukoumathes’ (honey balls).
