green-company-celebrates-earth-day-200Monday April 22nd 2013 marks the celebration of Earth Day, and local company Wolfestone is leading the way by getting involved. A global event celebrated by more than 1 billion people, Earth Day aims to link environmental groups together, to focus on raising public awareness and interest on a range of environmental issues, such as global warming & sustainable energy. Anna Bastek, Current IoD UK Director of the Year, Swansea Bay Woman of the Year and Wolfestone Director’s committed ecological beliefs have driven the company towards gaining the green standard ISO 14001. The company has diversified with a specialist arm called Eco Trans, specifically set up to service the renewable energy sector. Wolfestone’s staff are participating in Earth Day in a variety of ways, with the aim of raising awareness of green issues. Staff will be using sustainable transport or walking to work, and have been making efforts to reduce carbon emissions. From opting out of printed pay slips in favour of electronic versions, using daylight instead of lamps and switching to online magazine subscriptions, the company has already reduced its footprint by around 10% per head. Meanwhile, Wolfestone Directors Anna Bastek and Roy Allkin have pledged to recycle the company’s E Waste for Earth Day, a part of the National Computers for Africa scheme, which runs in Swansea on the 23rd and 24th April. For companies and individuals also interested in going green for Earth Day, there are a number of ways to get involved. From reducing junk mail through the mail preference service, or attending events such as Community Green Spaces at the Environment Centre in Swansea, there are a variety of options and schemes available.
